Woman files police complaint after being harassed by loan sharks

A 43-year-old woman from Thane who is taking private lessons recently approached the police after being harassed by loan sharks. The woman had downloaded a loan application to her phone, but although she did not receive the loan amount, she was harassed by loan sharks.

The scammers told the victim that her contact list was in their possession and that if she didn’t pay the money, she would be in trouble. Later, the victim learned that one of his students and parents had received his transfigured nude photo from an unknown number.

According to Manpada police, on April 14, the victim downloaded a loan application to her phone from a link she received on her Facebook. The victim had applied for a loan of Rs 3,500 from the said application and the next day, the victim learned from the application that his loan application had been approved.

However, when the victim checked his bank account, he could not find the 3,500 rupees credited to his bank account. On April 21, the victim started receiving messages on his phone from unknown numbers, informing him that the loan amount had to be paid within seven days.

“The victim also started receiving calls and messages threatening to make payment and if she did not do so, callers who had her contact list data would call those on her contact list and harass them. April 22, the victim received a message informing him that his naked photo had gone viral and that the obscene transformed photo of the victim had also been shared with him. On the same day, the mother of a student who was attending the the victim met her and told her that her son had received an obscene photo of her on his phone from an unknown number. A relative of the victim also informed her that he had received his photo”, said the FIR filed by the victim.

The victim then went to the police and registered an offense in this regard. The police have registered a case of punishment for criminal intimidation and punishment for posting or transmitting material depicting sexually explicit acts in electronic form under the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.
